★★ oh, wonderful tangent already melts me…
★★ cabriolet e46
★ lady sunset’s chorus
★★ arabesque melts me
★ ageha. i wish my whisper voice was just a touch gentler…
★★ talking of girl, though i don’t think i like this mix as much as the compilation one. it also might have been bumped up a few bpm?
so i still adore the song, don’t get me wrong, but…
★ koijanaino
★★ milkyway galaxy
i want to spend my days in candy constellation.
★ the arabesque remix

i ended up a/bing the talking of girls to sate my curiosity, because i felt like this one was both faster and had a more whispery vocal track. but it looks like they’re both at a steady 150bpm and the vocal tracks sound identical enough. if anything, the version here opens up more room for the vocals to be heard…
yet i feel like the changes made for this mix kinda work against the track. it’s definitely less bleepy, she cuts out a lot of her singing and speaking outside of the verses, the socopo-y toms have been replaced, and the instruments as a whole have been overhauled. maybe she was trying to make it less space-themed? yet that one interlude was still left in…
it’s just weird to think about because i still love the track, and it’s still maybe part of my top three favorites off usagi-chang superstar, but here… i think that, if i listened to this album first, i’d probably pick cabriolet e46 for the standout track, and talking of girl would probably be further in the pack.

out of curiosity i tried to see if i could find the cd booklet anywhere, and i managed to find scans! when means i finally get to understand what she’s saying!
- her lyrics are mostly in english, which i recognized, but i wasn’t expecting the english to be so incoherent…
- it also only partially matches up with the sung lyrics – she omits quite a few syllables
- and it doesn’t help that her pronunciation of some words sounds like she’s reading them as kana romanizations rather than how they’re typically pronounced, making it kind of a ピペ situation
- thankfully, most of the tracks are accompanied by a pretty straightforward japanese translation of the lyrics, which helps to clear up their meaning
- talking of girl has one hell of a lyric sheet. it’s been a while since a song told me to hang myself!
- though the japanese accompanying translation doesn’t even bother with a line-by-line and just says something like “girls are always like this.”1 and since this is the only song (i think?) where the romantic partner is addressed specifically as male, it makes me wonder if either she’s a lesbian or if she just feels like she’s on the outside looking in here
- especially because it gets strangely poetic right with that line about how it’s a moonless night… i can’t help but interpret it as possibly her being jilted by a girl she wanted to date and then having that girl tell her to hang herself
- also, lady sunset is a song about meeting someone, falling in love with them, and having to leave them behind because that person is someone that she’s not able to love, for some vague reason. add in the fact that the song is titled “lady sunset” and i have to ask: is mika the lady sunset here, or is lady sunset the one she met and fell for?
- look i want really badly for this album to be a yearning album by a closeted lesbian
- though the japanese accompanying translation doesn’t even bother with a line-by-line and just says something like “girls are always like this.”1 and since this is the only song (i think?) where the romantic partner is addressed specifically as male, it makes me wonder if either she’s a lesbian or if she just feels like she’s on the outside looking in here
- it also contains credits for who wrote and arranged all of these songs, which makes me think that mika herself only really handled the lyrics and overall production. suzuki akira handled a few of the songs (tracks 1, 3, and 6), but the rest are by a duo that i can’t find much information about… maybe this is automatic supper?
- i’m obsessed with the way she pronounces cabriolet
