you’ve played the game, now watch the anime!
ayumi + kaori routes
one loop done, two routes plowed through, three sex scenes removed in the process.
although, maybe that’s not really to the show’s detriment? like, he helped ayumi feel comforted. he doesn’t need to fuck her to prove that too. they can just have a heart to heart while holding each other.
- though now it just feels like a high school buddy anime between takuya, yuuki, and mio. it’s like they’re an established friend group with a love triangle rumbling beneath the surface
- the scene where ayumi keeps killing herself through multiple different methods just came off to me as comical? like she had multiple methods of doing so just lined up – one by one til what’s done is done
- it’s nice how he starts out with his reflector having five jewels instead of two, since jewel hunting with this format would seem annoying
- also i feel like one fundamental different this anime has which the game lacks is that takuya’s memory is persistent across resets. normally he acts like he doesn’t know what’s going on at all times, though that makes sense since any route could be the player’s first
- but also they got rid of takuya being a narrator to some unseen other, so perhaps his memory now substitutes for our own
- i wonder how they’re going to handle the hypersense stone being ruined, though i guess it only matters as a way of keeping kanna alive during her end, and that detail could easily be written around
mio + eriko routes
pairing these ones up makes sense too, since they both involve the mystery behind sakaimachi, triangle mountain, and ryuuzouji. i guess.
- though they totally blew their load by revealing the nature of ryuuzouji and eriko right there!
- and then eriko has to men in black memory wipe takuya to keep him from noiding out later?
- in the game, mio asks takuya to take her virginity. in the anime, mio asks takuya for a kiss. after much internal struggle, takuya gives mio a good girl forehead kiss
- this feels a little in-character, seeing as takuya is fundamentally a character who talks a lot of shit but then has a hard time backing it up when girls actually want to fuck him. but this feels like a bit too much of an overcorrection, you know?
- but also, in the game, yuuki just gets trapped behind a gate and takuya has to go on without him. in the anime, yuuki eats shit.
- maybe this solves the problem of there being two complete routes through this part? so they truncate with prejudice yuuki’s route and wrap the “important” part of yuuki’s route into mitsuki’s route
kanna route
- the one, one time they show fucking in this series, and it’s during the part you’d want to see the least. were they just sexphobic?
- but i think this is the most heartfelt and genuinely sweetest arc. maybe this makes sense seeing as this was kind of the weakest arc in the original game – you’re pretty much spending your whole time trying to pry the backstory out of this girl who just wants to be left alone. but here, the other kids are making an effort to include kanna into their group! to actually be friends with her! and, whether they know it or not, give her a chance to be a normal girl for once!
other world
- how does takuya know the name of the king. he didn’t even have to do a picross for it!
- there honestly should’ve been a whole separate episode where he struggled with the picross…
conclusion
maybe i was just being unintelligent, but i never pieced together that kanna was amanda and takuya’s kid… which makes the end where you end up with her as your partner actual incest hell yeah!! …though daddy-daughter incest is honestly one of the least fun types…
