★★ hello world! yeah the namco sound team was on another level!!
★★ smile!smile! i think i need this today.
★★ bambini. i’m guessing, with its chorus of 教えてあげる, that this is the tutorial song… so why does it go so hard?
★★ that cat’s name is andre. suddenly, so many mental pieces are locking into place for me… perfectly in line, like one moji placed next to another…
★★ portable: this soundtrack also feels more ok with using background pads? but that arp that climbs up and falls down again is so luscious…
★★ dang, positive walkin’ just keeps going until it wins your heart
★ cherry: “kiss the cherry?”
★ moji-moji mode: ok, so i hear two things lifted from Sonic Coaster Pop – SUPER MIRACLE CIRCUIT (2004) in this song, which is just a bit too many to be a coincidence (especially the super speed pop★star falling arp). it makes me think that someone (likely hideki tobeta, who composed this song) was a fan of socopo, and from there it’d be a simple ask to see if they’d be interested in contributing a song to the soundtrack.
though it also is very much its own thing, which i acknowledge and appreciate
tick up: yep, that’s a katamari
★★★ this bedtime puzzler… i’m not sure if the vocals make for a better song… but it’s still a goddamn gorgeous melody and arrangement
★★ our mojipittan is such a beautiful slice of cake that you could slice it up any way you like and i’d still love it… though capsule’s more traditionally shibuya-kei version just makes me wonder what a Plus-Tech Squeeze Box arrangement would sound like…
★★ words words magic easter egg mix: oh hey, speak of the devil!
★★ piacevole peppermint mix! and now we have socopo’s contribution! god they all made such a beautiful world to live in!
★★ all over the word! everything about this album makes so much sense to me…
★ on and on. i feel like it’s missing something without the kokorokokoro meme overlay, if that’s not weird to say.
★★★★ our xenopittan. is this one of the best songs to exist? or am i just in a mood today? but oh my god they put so much into this arrangement! each time i listened to it i come away impressed…
yeah this one feels a lot more developed than the first, which perhaps makes sense because the picopop scene had developed a good amount since that time and so they were able to draw upon a wider range of influences.
