these days i play dance games to find new music to listen to.
most times the music isn’t too good though…
but some times it makes me break down crying mid-song, which creates an additional challenge.

★★★ rubber human. i’ve been taken with this song ever since i first heard it as an itg stamina 11. the snippets of lyrics i heard intrigued me enough to want to look into what they actually were, and then it just devastated me…

penis music affectations aside, there’s something really sweet and charming about an artificial being who desperately wants to be what their love desires, and are willing to sacrifice who they really are to do so. at least until the end, when you can see that they really wish they could be human instead…
and momocashew plays the role quite well, restraining her delivery until that very last line and her voice suddenly breaks.

and i think that hits hard for me, because i kinda wish i could be human too. i really wish i weren’t defective. maybe it would mean that i could actually take part in this world too…

★ world.search (you) ;, though that formatting…

★ 幾年月. this sounds like it could be a touhou arrange, or it’s more like it sounds like it’s going for sounding like a touhou arrange.
(yeah this is really beautiful)

★ opium

★ excalibur is a nice ending, though the parts sound stapled together.
actually it feels really stapled together. i can’t even be sure if i could call it through-composition because it’s really hard to tell when parts repeat, and the song isn’t especially friendly to understanding its structure on first listen.
though i get the feeling more that the structure of the song comes from the arrangement of the song more than the melody. the energy of the instruments is what determines whether something is a chorus, or a bridge, or a return to the hook, whether or not this is echoed in the melodies of these parts.
at worst i make this sound like that one headband textpost, though i don’t think it’s quite like that. rather, it’s more that it’s a very conventional song where it’s hard to notice anything wrong until you think back afterwards and realize that it doesn’t add up.
but i also think that’s what makes it interesting.

(★★★★ rubber human is important to me now.)
(though i don’t read it as them actually being artificial so much as just feeling that way)

Notes

the name of the best song is…

so, in conclusion, the best song is either candy by the magnetic fields or rubber human by mili. they both have the same theme though, so it’s really your call as to which one speaks closer to how you feel.

…you do feel this way too, don’t you?
