oh god this is so y2k. like, this feels like it was made straight for the y2k aesthetic blogs.
and is it me or is the lingo jacked up more this time too?
chloe noted that the zenon series takes an interesting approach to sci-fi and the whole idea of speculative future, which is that it doesn’t do much speculative worldbuilding at all. everything that exists in 20xx+2 is just an extrapolation of what already existed in 2001. the future is the same as now, but everything is chrome – or more accurately, translucent plastic.
once again the special girl notices something unique but nobody believes her, and she has to spend the runtime proving that she was right all along. it’s just as frustrating as last time, except even harder to take seriously, and it only feels like she isn’t believed because the narrative requires everyone else to have their hearts hardened to the word of zenon. hell, the alien nut character instantly disbelieves zenon, even though he should be the one person who is on her side!
Notes
The sequel to Zenon - Girl of the 21st Century (1999).
