[DISCUSS] Ryu Kyu Strats from gerbilALLIANCE
OK so since we’ve all been playing Ryu Kyu recently it’s probably time to swap strategies. Here’s one I’m fond of, though I’m starting to see its limits.
Feel free to comment and share your strats. Let’s break through and reach the big nijuu!
[S, spade, H = heart, C = club, D = diamond, X = ten, # = whatever]
1: The Pinstripe
OK so what you wanna do is set up stuff like:
S H C D #
S H C D #
S H C D #
S H C D #
Really the arrangement of the columnns doesn’t matter, but just make sure you’re making vertical flushes.
PROS:
- Solid 1k for each column — When combined with bonus rows and the ability to add straights / pairs within the mix, it’s a pretty reliable way to net 10k.
- Easy to perform and use as a fallback — For 90% of the game you can usually use what you get in some row. And if you’re going for a straight flush / RSF and are forced to abandon it, at least this setup means it’s likely that you have your flush as a fallback.
- One extra column — I’m sure you could use this to set up straights or pair combos across rows to max out your gain, if you set up your flushes smartly. Otherwise you can use it as a garbage row, just in case.
CONS:
- 1k is pretty paltry — Maybe relying on it as a general strategy isn’t a good choice?
- VERY endgame-dependent — The strategy naturally requires that you get everything you need at the end. If you don’t, you could be boned.
- No fallback tier — Unless you’re going for straight-flushes or RSFs, if you botch a flush the best you’re gonna get is 1 pair
- The garbage column could probably be put to better use.
Currently I’m working on a new strategy (titled “Uncle Jesse”) that might prove more lucrative; however I’ve yet to iron it out.
Best of luck!
