this is an attempt to replicate the behavior of good discord server names (talktotransformer) by using a base gpt2 llm.

  • little by little i’m tuning it to be insane…
    • getting rid of the preset prompt/response structure that lm studio enforces helped
  • though i can’t seem to find a way to get the same continue-the-pattern effect that talktotransformer had?
  • even though i can’t seem to rein it into a single theme, it still manages to be unhinged

impromptu school story

“Hey, how’d you know that?” The girl asks.
”It was right here, on that poster over there,” I reply, pointing at the words ‘Poster #2’.
”What? No! You can’t be serious.” She screams and storms away. I smile. That was actually really cute, she seems to be afraid of anything remotely ‘out-there’ (which is quite possibly the point of the show). I sit back down. “Well, it’s your birthday today so let’s give him his best present ever."
"Best? What do you mean by best?” She asks. “It could just as easily be your first one or fifty, how does that even make any sort of difference?”
I can’t help myself, I think back to the past three days: It’s a small, tiny, insignificant, irrelevant, trivial and inconsequential thing that was my first gift - I had not gotten a new TV since I turned seventeen, it would be an awful shame if I gave him another one like the last time.
”I meant best,” I tell her again. “Don’t forget that. Your first is always special. Your best is going to be pretty great, I promise you.”
She takes it and puts it in her bag. I hope that she’s just getting distracted or maybe is too excited and is only listening to her music to cover the silence. It’s probably more likely than I let on. Maybe there’s another part of her that likes to stay at home? There’s nothing to be done about it if that’s true but at least she knows better than to act like a complete moron when her friend is out doing something that requires her presence, or even just talking to me in general.
It was going to be an okay day with my birthday present so far. I put on my sunglasses, get out of the pool and walk across the lawn to the garage door. “Here we are."
"Wow! You’re a mechanic?” My neighbor asks as he opens the door to show me a bunch of papers. “You have a car, right?” He turns to look at me like I’m a newborn baby when he says that so I smile back at him.
He nods and points towards a large blue-and-red pickup truck sitting in the middle of the parking lot. It looks like an old Dodge. Maybe the owner had a car accident, maybe they just like their rides old? Or maybe there’s something else to it. “What is your problem, I thought we were friends?” He asks with a smirk.
I shrug and walk around the truck to see that he was right. The driver, Mr. Johnson, has a full beard, looks like a hobo with the long white hair and I’m fairly certain that if he walked up to my neighbor today and told him it’s my birthday he would laugh and tell him how wrong he is. His face is also pretty big (and ugly). He was always dressed like this but never on this day - he has a tattoo on his arm, of a giant ‘S’ with ‘W’. I’ve never seen one so huge before, the number of scars all over it looks bad enough to kill you on a scale similar to those in the hospital.
”It’s not your problem,” I tell him and then move into the truck itself. “You should come with us and you can show us that new truck.” I look out the window, which is the only one that has any view of the street, because he obviously drove a lot to get here - like it was just another part of the car park to him. He nods in agreement and takes out a pair of binoculars from inside the seat, looking at his new ride with all his usual enthusiasm and excitement.
”Here’s how it’s done,” Mr. Johnson tells us and gets back into the cab and we begin our journey down the street, towards where our first gift is.
The garage door opens, a new driver steps out. “Nice day for a car show?” He asks.
”Don’t ask me!” My neighbor scoffs but says nothing more as we get ready for our road trip. We can’t really have any other hobbies at home when everyone’s going to school together or we risk getting teased because I’m the geek with no friends, so why bother? Mr. Johnson sits on the curb of his new ride, smiling widely at how easy this all makes life and starts checking his watch - he’s going to take it for a spin as soon as we get out here, that way he won’t have to go back to work again tomorrow (even if I think he will). “I’ll drive while you show it to Mr. Johnson.”
