because, years ago, calum shared the video for haru shite and i saved in my first music mix.
and, after stumbling upon it again, i’ve been listening to it a lot.
★ cinemic love. it feels so delightfully insubstantial. like you have it turned down to half volume by default.
no, this instrument palette is fascinating.
★ 素足の恋人. those pitched smash drums are so 80s.
★ escape from whisper
★★ tu tu. now here’s an end of the world track.
but also maybe it helps that this contains all of my tics, in sequence.
★ everybody is a spy is extreme 80s pop
★ 夏の日々
★ 春して、恋して、見つめて、キッスして: i’m so used to listening to this via the music video, where the vhs compression smushes a lot of these stings together and makes it sound bigger than it actually is.
but god i love that jackhammer sting.
(honestly, this one sounds quite different from the music video. a lot of the background elements are far more receded…) (but this could also be a consequence of the video version being summed to mono, at least in the rip that’s online)
so this is another overly-clever 80s pop band with a vocalist who hits straight but doesn’t quite hit hard.
yet still, maybe somebody will love it (or in truth i know who did love it, way back when).
2021-12-03: (★★★★ tu tu, i love you.)
(it genuinely feels like it managed to hack into my brain and read out everything that’s fundamental within it. it’s almost mocking in how directly it parrots it back out at me. but also, it’s this directness which makes it so easy to identify its melodic sense as my own.)
(tu tu, i need you.)
