★ don’t let go opens well, at least. this is a legit good song, i think!

or it has a nice texture and my favorite two chords. it falls apart when multiple chords are introduced. still, it’s good enough for me to be ok with.

★★ island in the sun, aka the reason i’m bothering with weezer at all. it’s a melody so perfect with production so tasteful i find it hard to believe it came from weezer.
well, until the distortion in the chorus hits. but even that’s close enough and almost works.
actually the chorus would fit perfectly too were it not for the loud guitars.

★ crab. this album is a tiny bit all over the place.

★ knockdown dragout. could i like this album if i let myself? (possibly, but maybe mostly like)

★★ simple pages. yeah, probably.

it’s a neat aesthetic where the guitars totally drown out the vocals. it sounds like the end of the world.

★ o girlfriend. watch me love this one.

and apparently i have written a lot about pinkerton in various places here, enough for me to deem it an important album. this album is not, but i like it more.

i’ve been friends with unimportant people, and i’ve met important people and been repulsed by them. and if i liked the unimportant people, that means they were important to me, and it means they were important after all.

★★★ simple pages. i’ve had this thought in my mind for a while now, but i really, really love how rivers just gives the fuck up halfway through the lyric sheet and starts singing about how much he likes hard rock radio instead. it’s so perfect, and it fits perfectly with the album’s unintended theme of just giving up.
