i guess this is more because of outside context than because of the song itself, since i discovered morgan vogel from a silly post and was enchanted enough to want to find out who this mystery person was.
it’s always a bit haunting to come across a trans person once they’ve already been eulogized. it always feels a little bit more personal, a little bit more probable that we could’ve interacted – we could’ve known each other – we could’ve been best friends. she was someone just like me, it’s easy to think, and so we oughta stick together. but was she? would i have really loved her if i knew more than her transness?: her sweet, dead transness that makes her absence regrettable? or would i have found some petty reason to wish death upon her, like i have with so many others?
for me, personally, the way in which so many of her friends and lovers described her as an incredibly focused artist with an ethereal presence is what made her interesting, since in some ways that’s what i want to be too. yet in other ways, i see her as closer to the brainy, confrontational, avant-garde, white-noise-burst archetype that most transfem artists fall into. and that’s a category of people that i’m fundamentally unable to relate to; if i did then it would’ve made my life a whole lot easier. so we almost certainly couldn’t have intersected (nor did we).
still, she was cute, which makes it appealing to wonder what if.
the song is ok.
i like the screaming cheers part.
