★★ i think i’ve heard more than this before. and it does have such a beautiful atmosphere.

★ avalon. this is a fantastic atmosphere album
★ india

★ to turn you on, though his vocal delivery is odd
★ true to life
★ tara

this seems like it has the potential to grow on me, due to atmospheric considerations.

like i feel like it’d be a good night driving album, at the very least

well i’ve listened to more than this like five times since, so i guess it was inevitable.

★ yeah the space between is good groovin music.

and avalon is pretty great too (would i like it more if more than this didn’t set the bar for me?)

and india is nice while it lasts, but…

i also read that a lot of this was improvisational and the main thing really does exemplify that. it becomes good mood music, but at the same time it’s not particularly substantial.

★ take a chance on me
★★ i think true to life is the wonderful one on the b-side.

Quote

my dad got into amway around the time i learned to read. on the advice of his upline, he began compiling a dream scrapbook. the idea was that you cut out pictures of nice things you hope to have one day, and the appeal of these images would help you pull through when all looked hopeless. ivory mansions and crystalline pools. balconies overlooking oceans, ivory ferraris. private jets and cursive fonts and driveways that wind along grassy hillsides like a thick pen stroke. all this could be yours! dad chased that dream for twenty years and it never was.

but i didn’t know that yet, and would browse through its pages as dad struggled to find someone to buy his water filters vitamins cell phones (actually that one was doing ok until the ftc shut it down) vitamins again. i don’t think i ever dreamed about one day living that life, but i’m sure it influenced my taste nonetheless.

dad broke down and now rants about jesus. i’m starting to think that i’m a bit too schizoid to have more than a quiet sad life. and perhaps cultures design afterlives to mirror our heart’s desires. some seek a static heaven, where they can finally relax and watch the replay tapes of their own life, on loop forever. others seek reincarnation—another chance at the life they’re convinced they should’ve had.
