i requested that we watch this tonight, since i hadn’t seen it before.

  • they could’ve made this way more despair-inducing. i don’t know what it means that my mind instantly went to that thought whenever problems arose. is this a reflection of the anime i’ve been watching recently? because i enjoy how her struggles get resolved: even though they take genuine work on her end to fix, they result in her making connections whose true value is realized later. and this seems more accurate, though i’m not sure to what (if it isn’t accurate to real life, it’s perhaps accurate to how we wish life could be).
  • this may also be how i’d describe the portrayal of the city: at times it seems idyllic, at times it seems like a shithole. this also seems accurate to real life, in that it’s a matter of perspective more than anything. each city can be all these things and more.
(sometimes i stare out my window and wish to believe that the view is better than what it really is)
  • i’m sorry but i absolutely ship kiki and ursula. i adore the idea of a lesbian couple living together in a hideout shack – the artist, and her muse.
  • ursula is hot.
  • i’m not sure if i’d read kiki as neurodivergent. she’s just sheltered, really, and has managed to keep her spirit unbroken (which is admittedly a rare trait to find in the city). otherwise she’s just an excitable kid with a shitton of anxiety.
  • so far i think this is the comfiest ghibli film i’ve watched to date. it might not be my favorite, but it’s the one i’d most want to live in.

(don’t ask me why but for some reason this also makes me once more consider devoting myself to music, maybe just so i can have a craft that’s mine) (and maybe even if that’s all it can be then it could still be enough)
